Sudan May 03/2018 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Omar Al-Bashir agreed to strengthen the economic relations between their respective countries and to contribute their part in the regional economic integration.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed conferred with President Omar Al-Bashir yesterday at the National Palace of Sudan.
Briefing journalists after their discussion, the two leaders expressed their commitment to boost up the comprehensive relations between the two countries.
Premier Abiy noted that the demographic and geo-political position of the two countries determines their decisive role and comprehensive development in promoting changes in the region.
The Premier appreciated the growing economic cooperation registered between the two countries and called for further growth in the economic relations between Ethiopia and Sudan.
He mentioned the trans-boundary joint development activities and cooperation in power and transport infrastructures development, and called for more enhanced cooperation in various sectors.
The governments of the two countries need to cooperate in meeting the needs of their peoples and strive to cooperate in resolving their problems through their collective efforts, he added.
The two leaders have agreed to strengthen the ongoing strategic cooperation between the two countries and their joint commitments to ensure peaceful development for Africa.
“Although considerable levels of success have been registered over the previous years, the two countries have agreed to work together as there is still more to be desired in promoting the strategic relations to meet the needs of the peoples of the two countries in ascertaining peaceful development and security,” Abiy emphasized.
Prime Minister Abiy have also underscored on the need to strengthen the ongoing people to people relations between the two countries.
He said the relations between the two countries and governments is equated through their relations and brotherhood between the peoples of the two countries on the common use of the Nile River, and express his gratitude for Sudan’s position on the tripartite negotiations regarding GERD.
President Omar Al-Bashir on his part said that the two leaders have agreed to work together to strengthen the comprehensive relations between the two countries to a higher level. He noted that the economic relations between the two countries are growing on a promising level.
He said that the two leaders have agreed to double their efforts in promoting and completing upcoming projects like railway and electric power.
The president clearly noted that Sudan expects to benefit from the construction of GERD, and believes that the project will play a vital role in mutual development of the three countries and supports the tripartite meetings that Ethiopia is conducting with his country and Egypt.
Prime Minister Abiy is expected to visit various agricultural projects that Sudan is conducting.
