Nation celebrates Diamond Jubilee of Patriots’ Victory Day

victoryThe 75th anniversary of Patriots’ Victory Day was celebrated across the nation on May 05, 2016.  The day marks the end of Italian occupation where in 1941, Ethiopian patriots fought for the independence of the country.

The Diamond Jubilee of Patriots’ Victory Day was colorfully celebrated at the Victory Square, at the nation’s capital in the presence of residents, ministers, ambassadors and high level government officials, including President Mulatu Teshome, Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Mayor of Addis Ababa, Ato. Diriba Kuma, and President of the Ethiopian Patriots’ Association, Lij Daniel Jote Mesfin.

Upon laying a wreath of flowers at the Victory Square, Dr. Mulatu Teshome, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia noted that the current generation should carry on the patriotism and sustain such a glorious victory in the fight against poverty. The President further said Ethiopia’s victory over Italian occupation served as a source inspiration for other African brothers and sisters during the fight against colonialism. Noting that patriots’ victory over Italian occupation has been a living witness to the exercise of national unity,

Lij Daniel Jote Mesfin, President of the Ethiopian Patriots’ Association said the victory serves a source of inspiration and strength to the youth. Lij Daniel also underlined that the youth should intensify its efforts to sustain the ongoing national development projects.

Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia, MR. Giuseppe Mistretta on his part noted that Ethiopia and Italy have enjoyed a strengthened multilayered cooperation. The bilateral cooperation will further be bolstered in the years ahead, he added.
