Dr. Aklilu appreciated the long standing and wide ranging relationship between Norway and Ethiopia, noting that the visit of Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Norway to Ethiopia in 2017 and Norwegian ministers of Foreign Affairs and Migration and Integration in January 2018 showcased the importance that the two countries attached to their bilateral ties.
The State Minister called for Norwegian companies to seize Ethiopia’s huge investment opportunities and invest in the country, while also urging Norwegian companies to engage and invest in the country’s industrial parks development.
Dr Aklilu also took note of Norway’s support to Ethiopia in the areas of green economy, migration, sustainable development, gender equality, education, agricultural research and peace and security. The State Minister added that the issue of gender equality is mainstreamed in the government policies, and that Ethiopia has also made great strides in expanding access to education and health. He said his country is doing all it could to develop green economy, adding that Ethiopia is Africa’s Ambassador in terms of advocating and working on climate change. Ethiopia is one of the leading contributors of peace keeping forces in the world and it is playing and will continue to play its role in regional peace and security, he added.
The Norwegian State Secretary commended the peaceful transition of power in Ethiopia. He said Norway and Ethiopia enjoy excellent bilateral cooperation in all Norway’s international development priorities: job creation, humanitarian assistance, health, education and climate change. He further said his country will continue to support Ethiopia’s development endeavors and further engage in efforts of ensuring peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
