Senior government officials including Aba Dulla Gemeda, Security Affairs Advisor for the Prime Minister, Ahmed Shide, Head of Government Communications Affairs with Ministerial Portfolio welcomed the ODF leadership upon their arrival at Bole International Airport.
It is to be recalled that Prime Minister Abiy has called upon all political parties in the Diaspora who have decided to conduct peaceful struggle to come home and contribute their part in the country’s democratic development.
Pursuant to the official invitation made by the prime minister, ODF, one of the political parties who have been operating from abroad has become the first foreign based political party to accept the invitation to conduct a peaceful struggle in the country.
I was recalled that the government of Ethiopia publicized that it has begun talks with the Oromo Democratic Front last week.
Accordingly, a delegation composed of five leaders of the party including Lencho Leta, Chairman of ODF have arrived in Addis to make assessments on the current situation in the country and to chart out future directions for their operation.
Chairman Lencho noted that his party does not believe in foreign based armed struggle and noted that in the past there was no favorable condition for their operation in the country and expressed that his party is delighted by the wind of change currently under way in the country.
